How much would it cost to change........?

how much would it cost to change the head gaskets on 99 ford f150.....

Two different prices...

1. Have family and friend get parts and change myself?

2. Have a shop do it.

Also what else do I have to change if I remove the heads?

ThanksHow much would it cost to change........?First let me say do not try doing this with %26quot;friends and family%26quot;.

There is almost a 99% chance you guys will mess something up or forget something. It is by far an easy thing to do.

As far as price your looking well over 800+. But that to have it done right! How much would it cost to change........?do it yourself. it not that hard, have family or friend help if your no sure what ur doin. shops cost too much, and if its just your head gaskets thats all you have to change.ask person at auto store for exact torque on heads when you put them on or buy book at auto store it will be in there. How much would it cost to change........?If you do it your self you must take the head to a machine shop and see if it is warped,if it is there is a chance it can be milled to make it straight again,it can also be cracked,so look it over, clean it check for cracks and make sure its not warped if it is you'll be pulling it off in a day or so...plus the good thing if it does need milled you will increase compression which means more hp!!!!make sure to buy new bolts for the head and use a good torque wrench...Good luck hope everything goes smoothly,to have a machinist mill your head it usually cost about $15-35 new bolts $10-20

p.s. check to see if your valves seat right push down the valve all the way and poor oil in the top cylinder(where the spark plug sits)if it leaks oil thru the valve you need new valves also...good luckHow much would it cost to change........?%26quot;It's not that hard%26quot;?????? Let me tell you something. If you rely on this car to get you to work, or your kids to school, take it to someone who knows what they are doing. One mistake could cost you an engine. An engine that is worth more than the truck. On the other hand if it's just a project, yeah, do it yourself. Experiment. Maybe it will work, maybe not.

Head gasket %26quot;sets%26quot; sometimes will come with everything you need. You can ask the parts person, they will know what is included in the set. Seperately, you should need intake gaskets, plenum gaskets, valve cover gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, and head gaskets.

Book time for a 4.6L is 12 hrs labor. For a 5.4 it is 17 hrs. labor. Remember that 17 hrs is for an experienced, knowledgeable automotive technician. Do it yourselfers are looking at double that time. That's 34 hrs under the hood of your truck. Or almost a weeks pay.

Good LuckHow much would it cost to change........?lol whatever you do dont listen to the first answer that got a thumbs down fast listen to the second answer
