I have the opportunity to buy a 2000 chrysler concorde for extremely cheap i already priced the head gasket outat 210 with new head bolts. I am just wondering how hard is it to change the head gasket.i have time thats not a problem its just doing it and how much more would need to be replaced and the process.obviously someone else is going to do it for me i just want to no for myself.How hard is it to replace a head gasket?That job i ridiculously hard with out a shop; It is in a very tight spot between the Block and the Aluminum which could possibly be corroded also also you'd have to pressure test it to see where its coming out of to be sure. Also be sure to find out where Anti-freeze leaks to if its into the engine oil or transmission the cars in trouble i wouldn't recommend getting the car because after fixing that you might have more problems soon like a transmission problem. i would also check if the block isn't cracked or it could be the timing cover gasket.How hard is it to replace a head gasket?It is not to hard if you pay attention to what you are doing. There could be damage to one of the cylinder or cylinder walls. A head could be warped. You will not fully know the full damage until you get to look at the heads and cylinders. The procedure is pretty difficult and labor intensive. That may not be the only problem that you have with it.....The head can be ruined and need another to replace it and the block could be damaged also.......Be cautious determining the mechanic to do the work.......hope this helps.....How hard is it to replace a head gasket?Like bill said, it's very labor intensive. The best thing to do is get a repair manual (about $20.00) for the specific vehicle. It will have step-by-step instructions and illustrations of exactly was to do in order. After you get the manual and read the instructions, then you can determine if it is something you think you want to tackle.

this is really not a tasks for a novas... especially if its a 4cyl with a timing belt .. because the head has to come off and that would involve possibility of messing up the timing.
